futsal - first training

On Saturday, i managed to get into the futsal CCA.
And today, Monday, is the first training.

The system isnt dat good.
But no1 can be blamed cuz the turnout is damn high
so naturally, you dont really get much play time.

Training started with warm ups,
thn sprints,
thn a very short jog around a quarter of the campus.
Still, i almost died there.
I'm nowhere near the fitness i had back in Sec 2;
when NCC training was crazy but addictive.

Ever since asthma, i find it a difficult to even run a few steps.
It must also be because i hvnt jogged in a while now.
But i guess im gonna have to start now.
Futsal training wud be a good way to do so.

On to the 5 v 5 matches,
we were randomly assigned teams,
and once again i find myself lucky to be in a rather good team.
We dont really build up play well (yet).
But we're a fast counter attacking team.

So far, in NP, i have never lost a match.
(A total of 6, including just now's
controversial draw)
And i plan to keep it that way for many weeks to come.

The difference between soccer in
secondary school and poly is very clear.
In poly, speed and aggression are levels higher.
So far, i dont see anybody showing off skills,
and making the game interesting.
Or maybe they cant.
Just a few steps forward and i find myself having to go thru
2 defenders, and one more approaching from behind.
Legs start coming in almost as soon as u get the ball.
Bodies start banging against you.

Secondary school has always been about covering the angles,
denying the attacker space,
and not committing the tackle until the final moment,
when the attacker reveals an oppening.

But now, defenders prowl onto you with so much aggression,
without hesitation at all.
I struggled to keep the ball today.
But i guess as a dribbler, you have to play smart
and play the ball to a direction that evades the defenders.
Also throw in a trick or two to send them the wrong direction
and put them to shame.
At least that's what i hope to do in days to come.

It looks like my life is gonna be full of soccer these days.
Futsal training on Saturday mornings,
playing with friends on Sunday mornings,
Futsal Training again on Monday evenings,
then Futsal for Sports & Wellness module on Tuesday mornings.

I dont mind though.
I wish to get back into shape.
And to ever improve my skills with the ball.

10th day in Ngee Ann Poly

I saw a parked Lamborghini yesterday.
Like how often do you see one that is parked
and not speeding on the road?
Plus, when you do see one on the road,
its only for a few seconds
cuz the driver tends to show off and drive faster
than most cars.
(Or maybe the car itself is faster.)

The one i saw had a striking orange colour.
I liked it in the sense that it looked like
Cristiano Ronaldo's first Mercurial Vapor 4.

yep, just like this.
i think both the car and the boots are a beauty.

I recall an incident last year
when us NCOs were on a recce trip to East Coast.
We were singing to the lyrics of Akon's "Smack That"

"Wanna jump up in my Lamborghini Gallardo"
thn a Lamborghini zoomed past the corner of our eyes.

Well anyway, today was kind of a relaxed day.
Contrary to my BAD day on Wed,
today was a smooth sailing day.

Had the luxury of waking up
at 8am cuz lessons start at 11am.

Started with Computer Programming which has NO maths.
Still, it is a very troublesome module,
having to key in all those computer language.
But, despite having missed one lesson,
i feel that i have no major problems with this.
And i even completed all my absent day's work
in less thn an extra half an hour.

After a one hour break at the snack bar,
(which has become my favorite hangout)
It was Engineering Mechanics.
Ppl have started to identify this module as the so called
"free period"
Sleeping, playing Counter Strike or just stoning,
can all be done here.

Lastly, Mechanics practical.
I expected an introductory experiment.
BUT,
it was just a 15 mins briefing,
and i left school at 3.30 instead of 5.
Both buses came fast and moved fast,
so i reached home at 4.15.

I've got Futsal trials tomorrow.
Hopefully that goes well.
Basically u only get to play one 5 v 5 match.
And in order to get in,
u just have to be visually impressive.

Its quite an unfair method of selection,
considering Goalkeepers will have less touch of the ball,
Defenders dont have the luxury of showing off skills,
and only the Attackers will be the ones
to be able to run at players and stuff like that.

Still, its just Futsal,
not as if its the school field team.
But anyway, the court's goalpost is all wrong.
It shud be more "square" if they want to call it a futsal court.

Rite now, what i see is a cross between
a street soccer and futsal court.

At any rate, wish me luck for tmr.

Worst day in 2008 yet.

8th day in Ngee Ann Poly
Probably the worst day in 2008 yet.

For a day so pathetic, i actually tot it had a good start.
Both buses came fast and i had a smooth trip to school,
arriving in NP much earlier than usual,
thus having time in the classroom to relax before lessons begin.

The first bad thing to happen;
i forgot to bring my Electrical Technology notes.
I wasnt just gonna miss a little bit since its only for one day.
Today, Wednesday, has FOUR hours of Electrical Technology.
So u can imagine how much i missed out.
(forgot to bring calculator too)

3 hours of Engineering Mechanics was fucking boring.
So i slept through 1 hour of it, and stoned for the rest.

I just didnt have a sense of direction in class today.
Totally lost, in all the calculations,
and struggling to try and keep up.
Engineering Mechanics and Electrical Tech dont sound like Maths.
But they are.
Worst, EL Tech has physics which i nvr studied before.

Some of you might be wondering why i got
myself into this course in the first place.
My answer wud be kinda complicated.

So next in the list of bad things dat happened today,
wud be my journey home.

Ended at 5pm
Boarded Bus 61 at 5.11pm.
No seats available.
I stood up all the way in a ride dat shockingly
took FORTY minutes to finish.
To make things worst, my left earpiece wasnt working.
Half assed music coming from my iPod.

Thn it was on to the next bus, 195.
Started waiting at 5.50pm.
The bus arrived 25 mins later, at 6.15pm.
AS USUAL, every1 was packed like sardines in dat bus.
Can you imagine, 25 mins worth of passengers waiting
at the bus stop.
AND THE AIR CON WAS FUCKING WEAK.
Damn stuffy stuff in there.
Seriously, it was the worst.
Last few stops was a living hell.
Bags all over my face,
getting pushed left and right,
stuck in between 2 ppl who think dat they are more impt
and have to get down first.
Dat kind of stuff.

When i finally got off dat piece of shit,
i saw not one, but TWO, other 195s
trailing behind the one i was in.

And they were empty.

Nuff said.

i wonder how the heck they made this

NEWater

And so just a minute ago, listening to Muttons to Midnight on 987fm, there was news about NEWater. Quite a coincidence since i was kinda into the whole NEWater thing the whole of last week.

And so NEWater has clinched an award for
"Best Contribution to the Environment"
in some global event as part of Earth Day.

Today is Earth Day btw.
Which is why i bothered to pick up litter on the floor today.

I think NEWater deserves this award.
Its an amazing idea isnt it if u think about it.
Water, such a precious source, to be recycled.
With more research and developments in it,
we'll be having no problems at all
when our water import treaty with Malaysia ends at
2061.

Yes ppl.
Malaysia stops selling us water in 2061.
So for those of us who may live up to dat day/year,
go suck a lemon (random).

I wonder wad makes Singapore's NEWater
stand out from the several other countries
who are also involved in reverse osmosis.
But anyway, congrats to Singapore.

In response to was SEBES said,
yes, Reverse Osmosis is more costly than buying water.

and to CHENG YU,
yea it requires a partially permeable membrane,
which allows almost nothing bigger than water molecules
to pass through.

6th day in poly

6th day in Ngee Ann Poly

I only attended half a day today.
Not supposed to attend school at all as I'm on MC.
Feeling much better thn i was on the weekends.
But i'm still feeling abit feverish.
And cough and phlegm still presists.

Reason for even going to skool in the morning
was that i had to do a presentation.
Which wud contribute to overall scores.
Personally, i think my 2-man group's presentation
went quite well.
However, we had overlooked certain keypoints
such as the advantages and disadvantages
of NEWater.

If anybody has any queries on NEWater,
feel free to ask me.
I'm a pro at it now.

Advantages of NEWater:

1) Makes use of existing sources of water by "recycling" it.
2) Cheaper alternative as compared to Desalination.
3) Reduces reliance towards Malaysia for water.
4) Produces very high quality water. NEWater is in fact,
cleaner than any other source of water in Singapore.

Disadvantages of NEWater:

1) Psychological barrier of drinking treated "sewage".
Some ppl might hesitate drinking such water.
2) Lacks certain minerals which are removed during reverse osmosis.

and thats all that i can think of at this moment.

First weekend of Poly

First weekend of Poly.
I feel terrible.
Partly due to the sudden workload after months of holiday.
But mostly, because i'm sick.
And so i hear lots of ppl are falling ill too.
Its just dat time of year again.

I somehow feel that my super combination of
Hershey's, Laksa and Bandung
led to this fever i'm having now.
Its not the fever i worry about.
Its the cough.

Bloody hell.
I STILL hvn recover from asthma which i started having
since last year November.
Now i cant even breathe easy.

Hope i recover by next Saturday.
Got Futsal trials on that day.

17th Birthday

17th birthday huh?
My thoughts on this birthday is erm..
very strange.

I didnt even see it coming.
U usually actually start anticipating ur birthday
as early as a month before it.
But i kinda forgotten about this one
until only the day before.
I guess it had been overshadowed by the coming of poly.

Even today, most of the time, i didnt spend the day
as if it was special.
Didnt even think about it.
Only got reminded about it here and there
when ppl sent me IMs or friendster comments
which i checked on campus.

Thn for the second half of the day,
i was too busy being high and cheering for EE
for the inter school telematch.

Going home dat time, Shahril reminded my OG
dat it was my bday and they proceded to give me a bday bash.
Only then did i REALLY realize,
"Yea, today really is my birthday"

Kinda odd.
Made me remember the good times in sec school too.
When we "bashed" ppl on their bdays.
And all the stuff we did together came on my mind after dat la.
Miss sec school.

But anyway,
I realise that 16th of April has been a very impt day
in years of the past.

For example, the term "Cold War"
was first coined by Bernard Bauch, on this day,
referring to the tensions between the Soviet Union
and the United States some time back.

Not forgetting,
the Virginia Tech massacre
which involved a gunman killing 32 people
and severely injuring 23 others before committing suicide.
A moment of silence for the victims please.

Well, but i guess everyday of the year
has its significance.
Not only is the 16th of April special.

Anyway, i really feel no significance in my 17th birthday.
Somehow its the "even number" birthdays dat are more celebrated.
Face it, turning 14, 16 and 18
is much cooler than turning 13, 15 and 17 rite?
Of course, 21 wud be an exception.
Come to think of it, wud i be celebrating
my 21st birthday in an Army camp?

Dat is all for my birthday post then.
Thnx to all who greeted me a happy bday.
I do feel happy at the end of today, i realize.

I dedicate this song to you guys,
which is, Realize by Colbie Caillat

Day 2 in poly

Gotta love Tuesdays.
All other days i wud still be struggling in school.
But on this day, here i am, on this hour,
blogging from home.

Not only is there only 4 hours of school on Tuesdays,
2 hours of it is for Sports and Wellness.
which is basically PE.
but much more strict.
Still, unlike JC, you choose wad sport u wanna do,
and you do it for the rest of the semester.

It was obvious that i was going to choose soccer,
no matter how interesting the other sports looked.
Mainly tennis and softball attracted my attention.
And it wasnt because of the huge amount of girls
choosing this sport.

I chose to be traditional and go for field soccer.
BUT.
When i looked around there were less than 15 ppl in it.
Whassupwitdat?!

So i looked behind, there were 23 ppl in STREET soccer.
Max number of ppl in every sport is 24.
I made a jump to street soccer straight away.

First true S&W lesson will commence next week.

After that, it was CATS.
Creative Applied Thinking Skills i suppose?
I have an American teacher for this.
She comes from Los Angeles
and is a journalist.
I'm hoping dat she'll be keeping her lessons
interesting and thought-provoking like just now.

I stil hvn decided wad CCA to join.
But i guess its gonna be Futsal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didnt have time to blog about this yesterday, but,

MAN UTD WON ARSENAL!!!!

Heck care Barcelona.
WE MUST WIN CHELSEA.
who just drew with Wigan!!

Twist of fate for Arsenal.
Adebayor seemingly used his arm to score.
And 5 minutes later Gallas handballs and gives away a penalty.
Ronaldo power la.
Score against Lehman 2 times.
And i knew it.
I freaking knew Hargreaves wud take dat free kick.
That is totally his territory.
C.Ron's is a few yards further.

First day in poly

Man Utd won Arsenal.
But my first day in poly wasnt easy.

First of all it sucked to wake up at 6am
after sleeping at 1am, watching the match first.
Thn 195 took all the time in the world to arrive.
Still, i reached school at the planned time.
Met up with my groupmates
and then headed to our designated first lessons.

It was "Mechanic ECPRO" for me.
Wadever dat means.
But clearly enough it was about electrical engineering
and stuff, sort of like an introduction.
3 hour tutorial.

IN ADDITION,
graded presentation NEXT WEEK.
So poly's pace is this fast huh?
it okay though.

Next up was 1 hour of Engineering Maths.
Just 1 hour, yet i felt most worn out here.
HOMEWORK GIVEN for this one.

And the last module of the day,
Computer Engineering.
Now this is something very new to me.
I find it rather interesting
but my new found friend assured me it wont be fun
in just 3 weeks time.

More about this friend of mine,
i met him when i sat next to him back in the first lesson.
Didnt talk much then, but did so after that.
Here's how the conversation went.

"Eh you how many years old ah?"

"You look at me and guess lor"

"Ermm...19?"

"27"

Yea i know u know how i reacted.

Of course, there were breaks in between my lessons.
During ur free time u can do about anything u want.
But the thing i wanted to do most was end the day and go home.
Cuz seriously i felt very lethargic.

Gimme a break!
Its only the first day and it gets this stressful.
Certainly hope it gets better.

1 day to poly

This is it.
Less than one day to my first day at Polytechnic.
For some reason i seem to be feeling nervous.
I guess its because i dunno wad to expect.
But i certainly feel more excited thn how i was
when i first entered secondary school.

Hope my classmates will be easy to hang out with,
lecturers will be erm.. good?
Lessons will be easy to understand
bla bla bla stuff like dat.
I'm still thinking of wad CCA to join and all.
Hopefully everything will work out in the next few days.

Big match today between Arsenal and Man Utd.
A win for Man Utd here will make my first day of school
much easier to get thru.

Ronaldo and Co, im counting on you guys.
Glory to Man Utd!

EE FOC 2008

Electrical Engineering FOC ^^
Seriously i think this camp exceeded lots of ppl's
expectations cuz it turned out to be really fun.
Especially so when i feel that i connected with my
group really well.
Possibly as much as my OBS group.

My group name was Whisky,
named after the alcoholic drink that is Whisky

The ppl in my group remind me about lots of ppl.
Especially Ram, who reminds me of my ex cadet Siraj.
Except that he is 100 times more of a joker.
Saiful somehow reminds me of Haziq
but is much more outspoken.
Thn HH (not real name) reminds me of some guy in GESS
in our level, sec 5 now, forgot his name.
I think they're about 90% similar in terms of
physical appearance.

Even the group leaders remind me of certain ppl.
JJ REALLY reminds me of Ming Siu (ex APS).

Btw, my group has
HH = Hein Hein (i think dats how u spell his name?)
JJ = Jia Jun (group leader)
KK = Kin Kwok (group leader)
YY = forgot his name (group leader)

Technically, i'm also one of them
since Abdul Aziz = AA.
I only remembered that on the second day so nvrm.

Among the very fun moments in this camp were
"The Amazing Race" kind of thing we did around campus,
Mud games on a needless to say, very muddy field
which smells of cow dung,
and the time after lights out.

Lights out in this camp pretty much means
you are supposed to sleep but other thn making
too much noise, you can do whatever you want.

A group outside was playing soccer.
I wud have joined in if i didnt have a headache.
I wanted to spend time with my groupmates anyway.
Much of the time was spent playing card games
which were damn fun.
The forfeits especially.
But on the 2nd night we also told ghost stories.
I swear Hazman has the best ghost stories ever.
A senior thn told us all the ghost stories in NP.

I remain very skeptical of most of the stories la.
But still, im not gonna be one of those who stay in school
all the way til 8pm to study :)

After activities, and briefings and "lectures"
here and there, it was time to go,
but not before snapping some pics
and cheering
and cheering
and cheering.

Rest assured, including GLs, I'll be sure to look out
for you all in campus when school term begins.

Very sorry that this was supposed to be
MEGA POST
but blogger is being slow at uploading pics
(which happens very often)

I suppose under normal circumstances
I CAN
wait a little longer for the uploading.
but well, i wanna rest asap.

Played soccer yesterday
and a tournament today.
I wont be 100% for tmr's camp.
Thn again orientation camps arent dat physical.
But it still tires you.

I realised how rough and aggressive street soccer can be.
I was in total shock when i played just now.
Every1 was playing like a maniac.
And there i was thinking,
"Hell, wad the heck am i doing here?"
I played badly and the team didnt qualify for the next round.
Well, i'll be sure to draw experiences from this.

Surprisingly, i was playing in the same team
as my Primary 1 buddy, Ismail.
VERY VERY VERY VERY long since I last saw him.
Surprisingly enuff, he was the one to recognize me first,
even though i've dyed my hair and kept it long.
PRIMARY 1 BUDDY LEH!!
means when i P1 he was either P4 or P5
and guided me ard the school every recess time.

It certainly took me back.
One of the strongest memories i had back in
OLD Blangah Rise (we moved to new location at P3)
in fact, involves him.

He took me and my group of friends to
the back of the classroom block where the soccer field was.
And told us that scoring a goal on the field,
in football, is an incredible feat,
no matter wad type of goal,
or wad type of occasion it was.
After saying that he made a gesture of kicking
an invisible ball towards a goal post
and then he went running and screaming

"GOOOAAALLL!!!!"

wad a wonderful memory to have.

chatted with him and all,
played a few matches
thn went back home in a van
just like how we went there.

Well, so before i go on a 3 day hiatus,
(away at Ngee Ann poly for camp)
here's a sneak preview of wad i was supposed to blog.

the non-existent Mas Selamat?

trees?

water?

shoe in water?

kampong house?

WHERE THE HECK COULD THIS BE?!?!
well, actually i guess its pretty obvious.

At any rate, sms ur answers to

Phonelines will be closed Wednesday night

Alright, latest developments,
got to know my time table for the first term.
Not as relaxed as i expected.

Tuesday is the day of the week
8am to 11am.
while Thurs is fucked up.
ends at 4pm, with 4 hours of Maths.

All other days, i knock off at 5pm.
I dunno if this time table is confirmed or not.
But it seems very packed to me.
Not the kind of life i was expecting in poly.

Looks like there will be lots of stuff to learn.

Up til now, I still dont know
if there's going to be a soccer match on Saturday.
The opponents just keep on failing to
confirm with us if they are playing or not.
I dunno if its a lack of urgency or what.
But it's certainly not fun waiting like this.
Its already Thurs night, damn it.
Somemore this might be THE last match
before poly kicks off.

Now we cant book a good field.
And have to settle for GESS field.
Wait, isit even a field?
Ok la nt dat bad.

Nth much to say other than these.
Camp coming up on Monday.
Look forward to seeing the kind of ppl
im gonna be with for the next 3 years.
