Xmas eve

Xmas Eve.
And i'm celebrating it like how ive done so
for many many years.
Staying at home.

The better way to put it would be,
"Stay at home and relax"
Yes dats right,
watch some TV,
eat dinner with your family.

Not really.
Its really just "stay at home"
Cuz TV would mean watching,
The Polar Express,
and I express no interest in watching xmas movies.
The only one i've appreciated was Love Actually.
That movie, ladies and gentlemen,
is pure win.

For a family that don't even celebrate
their own birthdays,
I'm not at all disappointed that all i can do
on Xmas eve,
is to be stoning in front of the computer screen.

But the atmosphere tonight is just different, isnt it?
Tonight i can just sit back and relax,
knowing that the whole world
is in the mood of celebration too.
Even if there are families out there who cant afford
a Xmas tree or a big family feast,
i'm sure the spirit of giving is being experienced,
more than ever, on this day.
Oh wait. Xmas is tomorrow.
Ok then, both these days.

Xmas is probably the most celebrated holiday in the world.
It might interest you to know that,
during World War 1,
British and German soldiers interrupted their fighting,
just to be able to celebrate Xmas,
an event that is now known as the Christmas Truce.

Yea so i would like to wish every1 in the world
just one thing tonight,
and that is,

a VERY VERY Happy Christmas.

because merry sounds like ur gonna be
out the whole night drinking.

Hady Mirza wins Asian Idol

And so it happened.
Hady Mirza became the first ever Asian Idol.
Really i was shocked.
(i got vote for him okay)
But at the same time delighted
that all his effort did not go into waste.

I rewatched all the performances here

http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-QrvNytM5cqGOi7.4z4Ro1bGnf8gL?p=42250

i take back wad i said about him
being surpassed by the other idols.
i guess he really was on par with the others.

my judgement was probably affected by the judges comments,
who clearly sided contestants like
Mike, Jaclyn, and Mau.

And so Singapore played the role of underdog
and gained all the glory in the final minutes.
And fortunately, though he was almost reduced to tears,
Hady didnt disappoint with his final performance,
leaving a good taste in every1's mouth.

Here's a fact on how the winner was chosen.

As consideration on population size among the participating countries, tabulation of votes are done through an "Equal and Even Cumulative Method", wherein the total votes of each country are converted into percentages
. The winner was determined through 50% viewers' votes and 50% judges' scores, in which Hady Mirza from Singapore Idol won the crown.

quoted from Wikipedia

and so it wasnt really unfair at all.
Needless to say, Hady Mirza DOES deserve to be
Asia's very first Idol.
(if there is ever gonna be a second)

I mean, look what happened to World Idol.

CRITICIZED
- for making the 10 out of 11 Idols look like losers,

- for profit making in UK phone voting,

- and for the purpose of exposing Kelly Clarkson to
a wider audience.

Asian Idol

Asian Idol.

To be honest, i don't think Hady Mirza's gonna win.
My pick earlier on before the show was
Malaysia's Jaclyn Victor.
Having seen her perform many times before,
I was certain she would be a cut above the rest.

Opinions change,
and after watching the Performance Show yesterday,
i've come to a conclusion that all the Idols
are almost equally matched.
To me, the more outstanding ones were
India's Abhijeet Sawant,
Malaysia's Jaclyn Victor
and
Indonesia's Mike Mohede,
who is probably hot favourite in winning this.

Then again, Idol was never a fair competition.
At least most of the time.
After all, it is not based on professional judgement,
but popularity and appeal to the viewers.
Though we are all quite satisfied with our eventual winners,
there are some talent that were dropped halfway through,
due to not being able to gain enough votes.

Hady Mirza put up a good performance.
But good is all that i can say.
He did not produce that moment of magic
that would be essential in winning an international level
competition like this.

He sang a Taufik Batisah song,
and also Beautiful Day, originally sang by U2.

I dont think its a coincidence that
World Idol winner,
Kurt Nilsen,
also sang Beautiful Day on World Idol.
I think Hady was doing his research,
and when he saw how Kurt Nilsen nailed World Idol
with a smashing performance with
Beautiful Day,
he was inspired to also perform the same song.

But like what one of the judges said,
A rock song like that does not really fit in
with such a competition.
After all, what Hady needs to show,
is his vocal prowess,
something which a rock song cant really bring out.

The judges didnt do Hady any justice too.
They emphasized so much that Hady's got more looks and appeal,
rather than real singing talent.
Come on, we all know Hady deserves to be our Idol.
He's good looking, yes, he got the female vote.
But he really can sing too.

They also emphasized on how Hady can still win
the competition through the female vote,
so much so that maybe the fangirls will realize that
they should spend their votes on someone else.
But that doesnt matter.
Imagine how insulted Hady would have felt on that stage,
when the judges were saying that if he was going to be Asian Idol,
it would be due to his looks rather than talent.

As much as I want Hady to win,
i think its a better that he doesnt.
At first look, Hady was surpassed by the other Idols
in terms of ability.

Also, if he wins, people are going to have
a bad impression of him.

"Oh, that kid? Ah, like what the judges said, he won
cuz the girls like him"

"Singaporeans are more affluent, they got more money
to spend on such shows"

or maybe I'm imagining too much.

Still, I do think the other Idols did slightly better than Hady.
Not too much though.
I dont think any of them gave a "winning performance"
And thinking it through again, Hady's performance was
not bad at all.
So maybe he still got a chance at winning.

GO HADY GO!!!

dream of Heroes

8pm i woke up from my nap.
more accurately, at 8pm i woke up from a dream.
its the second time ive had such a dream.

i dreamt of being part of that TV show
Heroes.

i dun even wanna recall the first time.
total nightmare.
i was running away for my life.
from this guy, and i didnt even know why.
The thing was i could turn invisible.
The PROBLEM was he had some sort of enhanced
sense of hearing or something?
and even though i was invisible to the naked eye,
he just keeps on coming with decent judgement
of my location.

Well soon enough i found myself
running and running,
from cities to jungles to rivers to waterfalls.
Yea, you know how dreams work.
It really was scary i tell you.
I didnt know what the heck this guy wanted with me.
I just had the instinct he was a bad guy.
And i had to survive,
like a cockroach.

It didnt get any better.
My dream switched location/situation.

Again, you know how dreams work.

This time i was witnessing a day in the life
of this small little boy living with his sister.
In this one, i constantly shifted from
third person to first person view,
sometimes being the boy himself.

You know how dreams work.

It seemed so effed up dat i had to take
the persona of the boy when
SYLAR came.
Sylar is the villain of the series btw.
I remember holding a golden pendant or sth.
Sth which i recognized as the "key to further evolution".

He wanted it from me, badly.
Sylar in my story isnt quite the sly dude
you see on the regular episode.
He's a freaking monster.
Twice a human size with brute strength
and a coarse voice and all.
As if my childhood nightmares were coming back.
Seriously when i woke up in the middle of the night
after dat nightmare, i was really scared.
It ended with my "sister" telling me to
"run away" and that she'll "stay and handle it herself"

Wadever that meant.

I ended up recalling the whole dream didnt I?

I havent talked about the one i just had though.
This one was much better.

I cant tell you much.
Cuz doing so would reveal a large part of the story.
This certain dream was surprisingly similar to wad happened
at the end of season 1.

It was an unimaginable feeling.
I was able to do what is possibly
the ability that everyone desires.
And im talking about everyone.
At least once in your life, you have probably wished
that you could do this.
And maybe even some still do.

Human aviation.
It was just a dream, but at the very least,
maybe i felt what it would feel like to fly around the world.

1 year from OBS

as of today,
actually yesterday,
it has been one year since i went to OBS.

why wud i remember such a thing?
i dunno, really.
just dat i really feel that the dates
4th - 8th December mean something to me.
it really was an experience dats one of a kind.

coincidentally enough,
i saw in CNA news today,
that OBS seeks to venture to countries as far as
Croatia,
for their future plans.

now dats big.

i was from the Hilary watch.
i dont know if any of them remembers me,
but here, take a look at them!

yep. hope all of u guys are doing well.

yea i know he screwed up on the "effort" part.
but apart from that, Jonathan's the best instructor ever!
oh dats Guo Sheng.
haha.
he's the only guy from GESS to go OBS with me.

we didnt get into the same watch,

but both our watches became buddy watches anyway..
for your information,
we had to stay at HQ NCC the night before OBS.

and this is where all 100+ of us boys slept.

felt like a refugee camp
..
didnt sleep much anyway.

yep. i hope every1 who's given the chance to go OBS

would take it.
no regrets.
unless u really mind getting
under siege
by mosquitoes and sand flies.

getting back into shape

today, i scored a goal.
i'm very proud of myself

;_;

effects of training is starting to show.
and i hope this happens to all others who are working hard too.

one concern

ASTHMA

yes ppl.
its not chronic bronchitis,
not emphysema,
not lung cancer.

its ASTHMA.

had it when i was a kid below 1 meter tall.
and now its back, my old friend.
what a time.

neways, almost had an asthma attack just now.
the more i tried to breathe,
the shorter my breaths became.
kinda scary, i told myself.
so i took a minutes break,
and it was all okay.

Inhaler would be pretty much needed though.

Thursday, November 29, 2007

i need to work.
but i certainly dont feel like working.

bu seriously, i need money.
ive been going out often lately.
not go out as in go watch movie or anything la.
just to friends' houses and stuff like dat.

but everyday theres one common problem.

no money to eat lunch.

ive been bringing bread from home for lunch everyday.
but this cant go on forever!

so how?
find job?

no waiter pls
no sales pls
no flyers pls
no data entry pls

with dat much filtered off,
i wonder if there still are,
any decent jobs around.

nvrm. i'll just take it easy
and slack at home for the time being.

theres soccer practice too.
nt going tmr though.
been having this cough ever since
o lvls started.
in fact, even before first paper.

so i really think i need to compromise training tmr,
and see a doctor.
the cough's been affecting training anyway.

i find myself breathless
after only a lil bit of running.
symptoms of smoking, i know,
but i dont.

^^

anyway, the sooner i recover,
the faster i can train up and be a better player!!
wadever the reason is.

Tan Boon Long

I bet lots of ppl are feeling emo rite now.

Our very dear classmate
Tan Boon Long
is going to study in China.

and he leaves tomorrow.

...

i suddenly remembered there was this track
he told me to send him
possibly a year ago?

kept on forgetting.
fortunately, i remembered just now.

Boon Long has been a classmate for 4 years.
4 years for many others too,
especially when so many 2D ppl
went into 4G too.

4 years or 2, he has somewhat affected our lives,
with his catchphrases and words.
there are too many to list.
but for many of us, this unique "Boon Long" language
has become a part of our speech,
a part of our daily lives.

as i engage in a conference with Joshua and Ignatius,
i cant help but feel even more emotional
as both of them also describes
the impact Boon Long has had on them.

think.
just think.
think of him
think of what he does
we'll really miss it.

hope he comes back in 2 years.
actually he will.

then lets hope 2 years will pass by smoothly.

best wishes
to my friend,

Boon Long

an update just for the sake of it

this is an update just for the sake of updating.

how am i feeling at the moment?
pretty good?
O lvls will be over in about 2 days?

but for some it has already been over for like
a few days alr
and they've alr started living the life
of a free man..

one week was far too long to wait for
3 more MCQ papers.
i alr forgotten all the things i jammed in my head
for Chemistry.
totally unsure about Organic Chem, and Moles.

wad did i do today?
nt much of studying actually.
we went to E Centre at Jalan Bukit Merah
cuz according to HAZIQ,
there was a promotion for PSP over there.

yes, PSP.
every1's getting it.
i'm 99.987612332% sure im gonna get it.
not 100% cuz i may not get a laptop if i buy PSP
so im actually still thinking about it.
thn maybe it shudnt be
99.987612332%..
maybe 99.987612331%
wud be more accurate?

so we went to this place.
first thing we saw inside:-

"Visitors pls sign in for security purposes"

the security guard felt that sitting outside where
he couldnt see if ppl signed in,
would be an easier job to do.
so we just headed straight in without doing so.

could understand why he was outside.
there, air con was as good as no air con at all.
in fact, it got considerably hotter when we got inside.

this aint some shopping center alright.
its more of like an office building?
but its spaces are for rent for random companies.
there were KTVs, accessories shops and other varieties there.
we were only interested in heading to
Dragon Games
which was at the 7th floor.
even at the 1st, it was already awfully quiet.

2 elevators.
one had lights on.
the other didnt.
yea so we went into the unlighted one.
NOT.
the lighted one of course.
SAFELY made it to 7th floor.
here, its starting to get creepy.
like Resident Evil or sth.

it became more of like a hospital.
just a corridor, and the rooms side by side
or opposite each other.
the doors werent even transparent or translucent.
added on to the mysterious feel.
realizing we headed the wrong way,
we went the other way and straight after
a 90 degree turn towards the left,
we found a shop, shining with the brightest of all colours.

it was like in a fantasy movie.
all of the sudden we found the shop ><

reminded me of the movie Click,
when Adam Sandler was browsing thru
Bed, Bath and Beyond dept store,
when he stumbled upon the secret "Beyond" section,
where he evenually got his remote control
that could control the universe.

were we going to find the PSP of our deepest desires?

not really.
wads left was PSP slim which i was not interested in.
and the price was surprisingly high when compared
to Benny's reports.

disappointed, we left,
and reunited with Boon Long, Cheng Yu and Danny
who were getting their hair cut for tmr,
due to the GESS O Lvls Hair Massacre tragedy
on 6-11-07.

while waiting, browsed thru hair colour catalogue
and fantasized on having wildly coloured hair after Os.
nt gonna happen i guess..

Boon Long treated us a free taxi ride to Queensway
for us to accompany him buy shoes.
in the end the fare only costed $3.10 -.-

but STILL.
he is a bloody rich guy.
asked him wads his budget.

"No budget"

"Ok la but below $200"

ya shittin me?
$200 can get you almost any shoe in the world?
(exaggerated)
we even had to dismiss some shoes
as UNDER BUDGET
for him..

even dare go into
Limited Edt
to check out the shoes there.
ppl like me, can only go there and say,

SHU
(inside joke)

well in the end he got one nike one.
wait was it adidas?
nike i guess. white colour. nt bad.
Boon Long cat walk to test his shoes.
LOL.

nt long after dat i went home with Yongle
while Josh and Boon stayed on
for the famous laksa over there.

wow. i ended up typing quite alot huh~~@..

sad and happy day

Eff-ing sad day la.

After a 2 - 1 lead over Arsenal,
Gallas scored to equalize,
IN THE 90TH MINUTE,
to make the score,
Man Utd 2 - 2 Arsenal.

FUCK

THERE; I SAID IT.
(cant imagine how Mr AJ is feeling)

but wait!
today's also a happy day!!
my primary school friends visited!

for Hari Raya dat is.
you can celebrate Hari Raya for one month u know.

really appreciate them coming.
its like i have this assurance dat i'm not forgotten. hehe.

they're still as goofy as ever.

GESS Zao Sia

LEGEND
~~@ = Zao Sia

Today was the last day of school.
As quoted from Zhuang Ling Zhen,

"Last time sing National Anthem, last time pledge taking ceremony,
last time sitting at us usual place in class etc etc etc"

Little did i expect much to happen during
flag raising ceremony this morning.

A moment so outrageous,
it will probably be imprinted on the history of
Gan Eng Seng School.
thn again, maybe just in our memories.

ZAO SIA

*add arch-villain music here*

Zao Sia is a popular joke among the sec 4s.
it can even be termed as a pop culture in GESS.

Defining Zao Sia

"Nobody knows how to define it, but yet, we comprehend it
as if it was Sexuality Education"
- Top graduate of Class of 1886

Zao Sia is defined as a moment when a person
unwillingly makes a funny high pitch sound,
when trying to say something.

It usually happens when you are excited,
and cant get a hold on urself.
It can also happen when u try to speak in a very unnatural,
or a very high pitch manner.

Zao Sia in Gan Eng Seng School.

"Because this is our school"
- random person

Zao Sia has been a great subject of mockery, teasing, joking,
and many more.
GESSIANs fret the fact that one day, they might Zao Sia,
be it in front of a common group of friends,
or even worse, in front of a larger audience.
Whenever a person Zao Sia, it immediately catches the attention
of the ppl around him, due to the foreign sound that is given out,
compared to the tone the victim speaks in, most of the time.
As soon as this happens, those who witness the
utterly embarrassing Zao Sia, will immediately
find it very funny, and will start laughing at the victim.

The effects of Zao Sia do not end there.
Due to the prominence of the Zao Sia moment,
it is constantly brought up as a joke, from time to time,
by friends of the victim.
It is also used to fatally tease a poor victim.
Victims usually find themselves extremely demoralized.
In the long run, Zao Sia can get really serious,
and may haunt a victim for the rest of his life.

A higher state of awareness for Zao Sia

"This shows that GESSIANS are students of ability"
- Mr Giam

It has been maoshonXly proven, that GESSIANS
are able to develop a higher state of awareness
for the detection of Zao Sia around them.

Such notable examples would be
Joshua Chia Si Min, Eugene Tay Zi Jing,
Wong Ho Wai and many more.

GESSIANS like Benny Ng Jiang Le and Loke Kum Wai
have made use of this ability to not only notice Zao Sia in GESS,
but also outside of school, when their Taekwondo instructor
Zao Sia, and they were the only 2 ppl laughing.

However, having a higher state of awareness does NOT,
in any manner, protect you from being a victim
of the deadly Zao Sia.

Such is the case of Joshua Chia Si Min, who has
developed the sensing ability, but was a miserable victim
of Zao Sia.
As he was attempting a fade away shot against Dickson in bball,
Dickson fouled him, and in that mixed moment
of strain, despair and excitement,
he did what we call,
a MAJOR Zao Sia.

"FoOUU~~@L"

Preventing Zao Sia.

"Zao Sia, it is a gift of laughter, yet a painful curse
on self esteem, should it really be prevented?"
- Motion of Sec 3 Debate Finals, 1997

(debate ended with a draw as each and every speaker
in the round, Zao Sia at least once in their speech,
in front of a live audience of 400, and went into great
depression)

There is no koshonXly proven method to prevent
the deadly Zao Sia.

"I never Zao Sia wan. I break voice is break properly"
- Tan Ri Sheng.

Indeed, it is true that Zao Sia mostly happens to boys.
but yet, the root of it remains a mystery,
causing a cure, not to be found as of AD 2007.
The only known way to prevent it, is to maintain
a cool attitude, always controlling ones excitement,
and always be aware that Zao Sia may happen anytime.
However, even this, isnt perfect as the collectively cool dude,
Joshua Chia Si Min,
has not only been a victim of a Zao Sia,
but a MAJOR Zao Sia.

Notable Zao Sia in GESS.

There are many Zao Sia moments in GESS,
but yet, only a few will prominently be remembered
as one of the greatest moments in GESS.

Leon Tan of 4H 2007

Zao Sia during the Sec 4/5 Spelling Bee Contest, 2007,
while trying to pronounce a girls name,
as the host/judge of the contest,
in front of a crowd of Sec 3s, 4s and 5s.
"SamPA~~@gita"

Royce Tan, graduate of Class of 2004.
Returned as the Parade Commander of National Day Parade 2007,
Zao Sia while giving his LAST command (second last syllable),
in front of virtually, the WHOLE SCHOOL.
"...kawalan kehormatan dahulu; ke kanan,
PUUU~~@SING!~~"

and finally, what inspired today's post,

Pledge Taker and Parade Commander

of daily Flag Raising ceremony, 19th October 2007 (today)

Parade Commander
a girl from band,
attempting to give the Sekolah Sedia command,
in front of the whole school.
"Sekol~~@ah~~@ Sedi~~a!!~~

already, witnesses were shaken by the MAJOR Zao Sia,
but hung on, to respect the National Anthem.
However, they were then overwhelmed by the following.

Pledge Taker
a sec one Indian boy, attempting to lead the school
in the National Pledge, but screws up miserably.
There will probably be no1, in the future
and no1 who have screwed up as much as this kid,
in reciting the pledge.

"Our Pledge.
We, the Citizens of Singapore,
pledge ourselves as one united people,
regardless of race, language, of race.
...
..err..
to build a demoratic asdkdjad&^&
*goes on to say some random shit*
..on justice and equality
so~~@ (ZAO SIA!!) as to achieve..
..
achieve..
ok nevermind start again.
*faster pace*
We the citizens of Singapore pledge ourselves
as one united people, regardless of race,
language or religion,
to build a democratic society,
based on justice and equality,
so as to achieve HAPPINESS,

prosperity and progress,
for our Nation.
Pledge Over,
Hands Down. <-- LOL!!

1) Its THE pledge not OUR pledge (doesnt matter)
2) Modifies pledge with some random stuff
3) Forgot what Singapore must achieve.
4) for the first time in history, informally tells the school
that he will repeat the pledge
5) Pledge Over, Hands Down. LOL primary school style.

But really, the moment of brilliance was
the Zao Sia when he said "so".

Aziz's Notes: What are the odds of having both Parade Commander

and pledge taker screw up and Zao Sia on the same day?
and wow, it was all coincidentally recorded on camera
by Raymond and Naveen Kumar.
I am truly amazed.

Conclusion

Zao Sia.

A phenomenon.
Much of it is a mystery.
But one thing is for sure,
it will eventually be intertwined with the now
122 year old culture of GESS.

as for now, another phenomenon awaits.
its called O LEvELs~~@

Sunday, October 14, 2007

So there's this new series of Gundam called
Gundam 00

being the anime/gundam fan that I am,
its no surprise that i had to go and watch it.
its only on its 2nd episode now,
not licensed.

so imma take my chances.

its quite similar to its predecessor,
Gundam SEED.

again, its about politics.
nations inventing mobile suits,
advanced infantry units,
for defence/war purposes.
Set in the year, 2307 AD, fossil fuels became exhausted and the whole world turned to a new source of energy, Solar Power.

Humanity must rely on 3 gigantic orbital elevators,
built to serve as solar energy generation systems.

However, these 3 "solar plants"
are in the hands of the 3 major powers of the world,
who reap the most benefits.
these 3 powers play a Zero-Sum game for their own
prestige and prosperity

Union

comprising of Organization of American States,
Australia and Japan.

Aziz's notes: here, the producers of the series have imagined the whole of the Americas, USA, South American countries, Canada to have united into one federation, the Organization of American states.

Human Reform League
comprising of Russia, China, India and South East Asia (dats us!)

Aziz's notes: here, the producers make use of what ppl today
are predicting, that is, India and China, establishing themselves as major powers of the world in the future. maybe SEA will be strong too!!

and Advanced European Union
based on the current European Union, having control of Africa.

Aziz's notes: here, producers have nth much to do, but to just portray Europe as stronger than what it is today, having Africa under its control.

Constant warfare around the globe for fuels and energy lead to the formation of a private military organization, called

Celestial Being,

dedicated to eradicating war with the use of four humanoid machines called GUNDAMS.

so basically they plan to stop war, with war.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 follows four mobile suit pilots termed Gundam Meisters (Meister is Master in German). The protagonist is 16-year old Setsuna F. Seiei, a quiet, taciturn young man who grew up in a war-torn Kurdish Republic in the Middle-East, and a Gundam Meister since two years ago. He pilots the GN-001 Gundam Exia a high mobility mobile suit effective in melee combat.

Here is the Sri Lankan war.

fought with advanced semi-humanoid mobile suits.

And the Gundam Meisters stopping it.

as expected from a successor of Gundam SEED,
the series promises intense fighting and combat,
accompanied with great animation and graphics.

but of course, nth beats SEED's
Akatsuki, Strike Freedom and Destiny Gundams.
yet.

episode 2 ends with Setsuna, on the way back to
his base of operations after intervening in Southern India,
crossing swords with an ace pilot from AEU (i think)
